Other fans and writers on social media took the opportunity to poke fun at the owners or make up outrageous hypothetical situations. MLS HAS to allow for deeper rosters or the quality late in the season will suffer even more.' rosters aren't deep enough for 50-60 games,' he pointed out.įurther clarification came from fan account MLS Buzz, who explained that, 'the league still only allows 20 "senior" salary cap players. 'Let's say LAFC, Austin, Philly, or Orlando make a push for glory. Reuter added that the game load for MLS players could prove to be too much considering they'd be playing regular season matches, playoffs, and three cup competitions: the US Open Cup, the new Leagues Cup, and the CONCACAF Champions League.Ībove is an example of the format applied to the 2022 Western Conference final standings 1 seeds who played each other in the MLS Cup Final. One would imagine that it would be tough for one of the teams who finished eighth (Columbus Crew & Portland Timbers) or ninth (Charlotte FC or Vancouver Whitecaps) last season having much of a chance against Los Angeles FC or Philadelphia Union - the two No. However, it's hard to see how expansion to a best-of-three series will improve the quality of the playoffs themselves. It will also be great news for season ticket holders and club owners - as each team that qualifies will now have an opportunity to host a postseason match. This expansion will surely be great news to Apple and its MLS Season Pass subscribers - who will now have more matches to watch in the playoffs. In 2019, MLS went to its most recent iteration, the single-elimination format that it stuck with until the 2023 season.' 'The league eventually moved to a “home-and-away” two-legged system. 'It revised that format in 2000 when it split the league into three divisions - at that point, the league’s top eight teams, regardless of division, made the postseason. MLS clarified that if matches are tied at end of regulation, teams will go straight to penalties Later the league moved on to a two-leg system featuring "home and away" matches. MLS then changed its format in 2000 when it split into the Western, Eastern, and Central divisions - with the league's eight best teams making the postseason - regardless of which division they were in. 'The league employed a “first to five points” best-of-three format for the conference semifinals and finals.' 'During its early years, when the league was struggling for relevance and financially threadbare, eight of the league’s 10 teams made the playoffs,' Maurer wrote. Rumors of a best-of-three series percolated back in December - with the idea that there could be a World Cup-esque 'group stage' in each conference, with the two winners going on to play in a single-elimination match to decide who goes to MLS Cup.Īccording to Maurer, this is not the first time Major League Soccer has adjusted its playoff format - nor is it the first time a best-of-three has been used. In this best of three series, the first team to win two matches will advance to the conference semifinals. While it wasn't initially clear how those draws will be resolved, MLS later clarified that if matches are tied at the end of regulation, teams will go straight to a penalty shootout. MLS is set to institute sweeping changes to its playoff system, including a best-of-three round And you can also lead the charge with some of those things, whether it be experimenting in new marketplaces and formats, or sometimes you have to lead the way in terms of marketing as well.Ī lot of the people we worked with at first were just individual artists. It’s been an important part of our model from the get-go: having the ability to have your own content, your own records that nobody can take away from you. How important has Redeye been to your success? Younger acts probably have way more vinyl, while an artist that’s been around for a while is a little more on the CD side. For us, the physical side is still pretty strong close to forty percent vinyl and maybe sixty percent CDs. The digital side has been strong for awhile, but its obviously changed from downloads to streaming. I’d think your revenue pie must have undergone a major shift. Glenn Dicker spoke with us from New York about changes that have occurred since Yep Roc 15, the “legacy label” label, and the continued glories of owning a successful record company. When it celebrates twenty years of existence in a weekend that includes two nights at the Cradle and a free outdoor show in Hillsborough, where the company is currently located, the stages will feature many of the impressive names that continue to grace the Yep Roc roster, including Nick Lowe, Mandolin Orange, Dave and Phil Alvin, Tift Merritt, Tony Joe White, Dressy Bessy, and the Fleshtones. Dedicated to no genre and guided solely by the tastes of its founders, Yep Roc has risen from modest beginnings to the status of a proven winner, flourishing while others fade away. In 1997, Glenn Dicker was the head of his own small label, Upstart Records, and Tor Hansen was the owner of a new distribution company called Redeye when these two old friends ended up in North Carolina and decided to launch Yep Roc Records. BYD and Beijing Environmental Sanitation Engineering Group launched an electric garbage truck in China back in 2016 and BYD sold one to Palo Alto and GreenWaste in 2017. While we haven’t had a ton of electric garbage truck stories to celebrate over the years, there have been a few. Photo courtesy of Mack Trucks Electric Garbage Truck News Of Yesteryear “Since then, DSNY has been evaluating payload capacity, regenerative braking, overall vehicle performance in their demanding operations, operating range and charging requirements.” The Mack LR Electric “DSNY took delivery of its first fully electric refuse vehicle, a Mack LR Electric demonstration model, in September 2020, when it began rigorous real-world testing in Brooklyn,” Volvo group tells us. “The Mack LR Electric demonstrator is performing well, and we look forward to when we have one in each of our city’s zones.” “We look forward to our continued partnership with Mack Trucks in striving toward our environmental efforts to benefit the citizens of New York City,” said DSNY Commissioner Edward Grayson. Of course, more than 7 refuse trucks cover the streets of New York every day, so I hope the city will buy 70 more before too long, or 700 more, or 6,000 (which is its total fleet size), but at least it’s getting its foot in the door. The trucks will be collecting refuse in the Bronx, Brooklyn North, Brooklyn South, Manhattan, Queens East, Queens West, and Staten Island. Which lucky boroughs of NYC will benefit from these quiet, zero-emission, electric refuse trucks? All of them. In particular, they are the LR Electric model. The good news this month is that the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is going to order 7 electric garbage trucks from Mack Trucks, a subsidiary of Volvo Group. Unfortunately, you don’t see many orders for electric garbage trucks yet, and certainly not big orders. There isn’t the problem of drag quickly draining the battery on the highway because, for the most part, garbage trucks don’t hit the highway (even if many highways are littered with trash due to the “polite and respectful” nature of many humans). The noise and pollution of the trucks don’t wake people up 30 minutes before their alarms. Some of the electricity is recovered via regen braking in the middle of the short trips from neighbor to neighbor. The stop-start nature of garbage trucks is almost custom-made for EVs - no burning fuel as garbage trucks sit in front of one house after another lifting up garbage cans. Garbage trucks run regular, predictable routes, meaning required range is straightforward and clear. And Mack and Volvo aren't the only ones working makingīYD, for one, also has electric refuse trucks going into service. It’s one of those vehicle sectors that seems tailor made for a quick electric transformation. This isn't just a concept, as this demo truck will go into service for the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) beginning next year. If only the actual collection could be quieter, too. That means running collection routes at night is more feasible in urban areas. Furthermore, getting rid of the internal combustion engine helps to make the vehicle much quieter. Maintenance should be less frequent for electric trucks, too, which increases uptime and operational efficiency. They follow prescribed routes, so predicting range is easy, and they return to the same location at the end of their cycles to charge. They drive slowly much of the time they're in use, and make frequent stops for collection. Garbage trucks seem particularly well suited to electrification. Our favorite touch, though, is the Mack bulldog ornament done up in copper, which is a feature specific to the It has regenerativeīraking, and can charge at up to 150 kW using an SAE charging plug. The truck uses a two-speed transmission to send that power to the rear axles. The motors provide a peak 496 (and 349 continuous) horsepower. The Mack electric garbage truck is powered by four NMC lithium-ionīatteries of an unspecified capacity and a pair of 130-kW AC electric motors. LR BEV Refuse Demonstration Model at WasteExpo 2019. Volvo subsidiary) has an even better solution. Thankfully, many waste management companies and municipalities have already moved toward cleaner garbage trucks running onĪlternative fuels, but they can still be polluting both in terms of Truck that - while it may take your trash and recycling from your curb - leaves behind a big plume of exhaust smoke. There's nothing quite like being woken up at the crack of dawn by a giant, slow moving The projector comes with a tripod for aiming the device, but be sure you have a sturdy base because the tripod isn't all that good. The battery will last for 90 minutes on a charge, which is fine for business presentations, but you may need to plug in for a feature-length movie. The sound isn't very loud, which is something of a theme for AAXA projectors, unfortunately. Basically, any device you come across in your travels should work with this projector. You can plug in via HDMI, USB, MicroSD, and mini-VGA. The AAXA P7 is a tiny cube about 4 x 4 x 3 inches (LWH) and has a lot of input options considering its size. In addition to being portable, a travel projector has to easily fit into a bag and work under most conditions. Resolution: 1080p | Brightness: 700 ANSI lumens | Contrast Ratio: 20,000:1 | Projection Size: 16 to 135 inchesįinding a projector that's portable is one thing, but finding one that travels well is another. But the tiny size, combined with the high contrast picture makes this an ideal companion for business presentations on the go. The lack of wireless connectivity is disappointing, and the fact that Optima sells a dongle to correct that oversight for an additional cost is borderline insulting. The projector is also a little on the expensive side. You will want to make sure your presentation room is as dark as possible, though. It's ideal for business because it's bright enough for a conference room and small enough for a briefcase or backpack. The size becomes even more impressive when you consider the 700 ANSI lumens and 20,000:1 contrast ratio you get in this powerful machine. In this case, you can get a 100-inch projection from just six feet away. It's also a short-throw projector which means you can have the projector close to the screen and still have a full-sized picture. Photos of the projector don't really show just how very small this projector is. When you're talking about mini projectors, there's "mini" and then there's the Optima ML 750ST. Resolution: 1080p | Brightness: 50 ANSI lumens | Contrast Ratio: 2000:1 | Projection Size: 30 to 100 inches Overall, this device is small enough to fit into a jacket pocket or a small bag making it ideal for campers, hikers, or really anyone who wants to tote their own projector around. The included tripod lets you point the projector anywhere you need it to go. You can connect to your projector using the HDMI input or plug in a USB drive to display photos and movies. Still, we like to see that kind of versatility in devices. You can also charge your phone off of the battery, but that obviously leaves even less power for the projector. The projector comes with a 3,400 mAh battery built-in, which will barely get you through a 2-hour movie. It also has a fairly dim picture, however, so you'll want to set this projector up in as dark a room as possible. This device is about the size of three CD cases stacked on top of each other and has decent sound. Keeping in line with portability comes the Apeman M4 DLP projector. Resolution: 720p | Brightness: 200 ANSI lumens | Contrast Ratio: Not listed | Projection Size: 40 to 100 inches It's not cheap, but it's got everything you need built in. Overall, we really like the Nebula Capsule II, and think it's the perfect solution for a pop-up cinema night or even as a bedroom TV for occasional use. The projector runs on Google's Android software, so along with the easy-to-use interface you can easily download apps like Netflix or Hulu, plus you get the added bonus of built-in Google Assistant. You can also control it using Google Assistant or via a smartphone app or the supplied remote. It's got everything you need, including a speaker built into the base and a built-in app store-just connect it to a Wi-Fi network, and you're good to go. When considering mini projectors, portability is one of the prime considerations, and when it comes to that, being the size of a soda can is about as small as you can get (especially as most bags and backpacks have pockets designed for carrying drink-sized items). In general, men tend to have a higher tolerance than women due to their larger size. One of the most influential physiological factors falls along gender lines. Each affects how adept your body is at processing alcohol and ultimately, how long alcohol will stay in your system: Some factors are genetic, whereas others are not. This can cause drinkers to feel sick and experience flushing, headaches, nausea, and/or vomiting.įactors that Influence Alcohol ProcessingĮach individual processes alcohol a little differently, meaning that they may be able to process alcohol faster or slower. Genetic factors can affect the body’s efficiency in this process which can instead result in a buildup of harmful alcohol byproduct acetaldehyde. Instead, the majority of alcohol is eventually broken down into carbon dioxide or water. Only a small amount of alcohol is excreted via urine, sweating, or breathing. Excess alcohol beyond what the liver can process is pumped through your heart to your lungs. This rate is estimated to be about 0.015 BAC per hour. The liver is only able to produce a certain amount of this enzyme, which limits the amount of alcohol that the liver can process at a given time. It is able to do so with the aid of two enzymes: alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). The bulk of alcohol processing is done in the liver which accounts for nearly 90% of alcohol elimination. It is not until alcohol has entered the bloodstream that metabolization can begin. Once the alcohol has passed through this organ tissue, it enters the bloodstream, circulating the body and resulting in the tell-tale signs of intoxication. The stomach and organ absorb the majority of alcohol before it is then passed onto the bloodstream which is why the effects of alcohol aren’t always felt immediately. This begs the question, “How long does alcohol stay in your system?” How the Body Processes AlcoholĪlthough alcohol goes through the digestive system it is not processed like food. If more alcohol is consumed than what the body can process, a hangover could be experienced the next day. Depending on tolerance, effects might begin to be felt after a single drink or after several drinks. Signals are sent to and from the brain, and they might begin to feel or act differently. When an individual drinks alcohol, it is processed by different organs and cells throughout the body. Patients are most commonly prescribed biguanides (eg, metformin), historically followed by insulin secretagogues such as sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide) and meglitinides (eg, repaglinide). The majority of patients with T2D are on some form of oral antidiabetic agent. It is important that clinicians be aware of some of the most common interactions with T2D medications and not rely solely on electronic software to flag such interactions. However, although this software helps to monitor for interactions, it can be fallible. Most clinicians use electronic medical software that will alert when such interactions are present. 1For that reason, a complete drug and supplement inventory must be part of the patient intake process at each visit. It is alarming that fewer than 40% of patients reveal their use of dietary supplements to their health care provider, when an estimated 20% to 30% of people on prescription medicine take some form of botanical supplement. When treating these patients for acute and chronic illnesses beyond their T2D diagnosis, clinicians should inquire about any dietary supplements and medications they may be taking. It is important to be aware of drug-drug and drug–supplement interactions with these patients. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is an unfortunate reality for many patients who are seen in primary care settings on a regular basis. |
